Design Brief

The different programs I could use to store Mr. Eminem’s data are Microsoft Excel, Star Office, Quattro, Lotus 123, Lotus Symphony, Microsoft Works, Framework, Ability and VisiCalc.

I am going to stick with using Microsoft Excel because it allows you to unlock and access the data easily by using formulas across a grid of cells. You can use conditional formatting; you can format your spreadsheet by using colors, making things bold to differentiate the difference between columns. Excel also allows you to gather together different files and documents which will make it easier to transfer all of Mr. Eminem’s data.

Example of how I could do my excel spreadsheet but mine would be slightly different as I will specify in only one artist and all his many different albums. My excel spreadsheet will also include the manufacturing costs, selling price and the profit/loss.

Unit Question: How can we use data analysis in our day-to-day life to make informed decisions?

Criteria A: Investigation – ICT

 A music artist who needed help with keeping record of his album sales approached me. He has come to me seeking help as he has been keeping record of his sales through books. So many people are buying his albums and he is now struggling with calculating his profits and losses for each one. He is hoping that I will have a solution to his problem as it is causing big issues for him. He is also losing track of if he is receiving the right amount of payments. To solve his problem, I have decided to use excel to make it easer for him, I will store a list of all his albums with their cost price, selling price, profit/loss and how many have been sold worldwide and in different countries. This way he will be able to access and update the information easily. To complete this, I will need a list of all his albums with their prices and selling prices and this way I will be able to calculate if it is profit or loss. I will also need a laptop with the excel software downloaded onto it. The information and excel software with allow me to get right on track.

         

How do I create a solution using appropriate computer software?

-       Using appropriate computer software, this will make it easy for the music artist to keep track of his records as they will become easier to access and update.

How can it help my customer to perform automatic calculations?

-       On excel, there are settings you can adjust which will allow you automatically calculate your data.   

Requirements

I will need all of Mr. Eminem’s data files. I will have different columns that will be labeled Album Names, Album Manufacturing Price, Album Selling Price; Number Of Album sold per year and Album profit/loss.
